Jin Matsumoto - Senior Advisor
Jin Matsumoto has an extensive 35 year career in business development, operations management, and venture capital focusing mainly on U.S. and Asian markets.
Most recently, Mr. Matsumoto served as President and CEO of Best Medical Co. Ltd. in Saitama, Japan. During his tenure with the company, he concentrated on sales force efficiency, supplier diversification in China, and technology development leading to dramatically improved revenue growth and cash flows. He later negotiated the successful sale of the company to an overseas firm.
Prior to this experience, Mr. Matsumoto was SVP of Business Operations at Paperboy Ventures, a merchant banking / venture capital partnership based in Washington, D.C. In this capacity, he was responsible for day to day operations of the firm’s environmental and technology focused portfolio companies, serving as an executive in residence and board member. His areas of expertise include renewable energy, recycling technology, hybrid automotive technology, medical devices, new materials, and software development. As a member of Paperboy’s investment committee, he also sourced new investment opportunities for the firm, led the due diligence process, and made decisions on various investments.
Mr. Matsumoto spent nearly 30 years with Mitsubishi International Corporation in a wide-ranging career involving aerospace and defense, oil and gas, and commodities export. In his most recent capacity as SVP for the Dallas region, he built and maintained strong business relationships with Lockheed-Martin and Raytheon supporting the F-16 and T-400 military programs. Throughout his Mitsubishi career, Mr. Matsumoto also made significant investments in the medical device, nano-technology, chemical, renewable energy, waste management and metal processing industries. Made the last of three deliveries of C-130H air lifters to the Japanese government from Lockheed-Martin Georgia.
Developed trade with partner firms in Korea, China, Tunisia, Turkey, Germany, Russia, Mexico, Brazil and Canada in various commodities, primarily steel.
Sold and completed a mid-size diesel generated power plant on the Grand Bahamas Island through partner firm (Southern Company).
Appointed CEO Mitsubishi’s first 100% owned subsidiary in the U.S., Kux Manufacturing.
Named the youngest general manager in Mitsubishi during the mid 1980s.
Active in civic work, Mr. Matsumoto has served as the Chairman of the Inter-America Region of the World Organization of the Scout Movement and has been on 3 national committees of the Boy Scouts of America. He also held officer positions in the Japan-America Societies of St. Louis, Detroit, Atlanta and Dallas.
Mr. Matsumoto earned a BA in Marketing from Hosei University in Tokyo, Japan, a BA in Economics from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA and did his graduate coursework at Georgia State University.
